On Saturday December 10th, 2005 the local club "Texas Wingnuts" got together for a cross country flight. We departed Highland Bayou Park at about 8:15 a.m. and headed SW with a 3 to 4 mph wind at our back. We covered 51 miles in about an hour and 45 minutes or so. It was a great flight and we flew with a lot of migrating birds. Toward the end of the flight we flew over a land fill area. There were literally THOUSANDS of seagulls that took flight when we approached. Beery and one of the pilots visiting from Dallas dropped down and into the sea of birds. It was truly a sight to see. I kept waiting for one of the birds to get blended in one of their props as there were so many but they avoided the guys with no problems. We had some cloud cover so the lighting wasn't great but I got some pictures of the PPG and sea of birds. We were about a mile from our destination when Beery comes over the radio, "I've got a wild pig over here below me." Well, the chase was on. Three of us dropped down to about 20 feet above the deck and gave Mr. Piggy a run for his money. I was able to get a couple of pictures and I think one of the other pilots got some video. We turned for the LZ, (a nearby RC airplane airport that one of our club members flys from sometimes). A great flight even with the cold temperature. Enjoy the pictures.
Chris.
